As the officers then attempted to box in the vehicle, Rettig crashed into them and continued to drive away before eventually coming to stop. The driver disobeyed all orders to stop and continued to attempt to flee from the officers. in Harrison Township on October 25, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. Officers originally tried to pull Rettig over for a routine traffic stop at around 2 a.m. "I think she truly believed she was going back to prison and figured she'd get one more hit of crack cocaine before she does her time," Wickersham added. "In this job, you can never say you've seen it all," Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham told Fox 2 Detroit. The clip shows the suspect, 36-year-old Kristi Rettig, nonchalantly taking a hit behind the wheel while officers point their firearms at her and demand she puts her hands up. The footage was made public by Michigan's Macomb County Sheriff's Office in order to highlight the scale of the drug problem in the area, describing the video as proof that "the epidemic is real."
